Are you also one of those people who uses the microwave for everything? If you like to have fast food ready, the microwave is the perfect companion. And as an excellent fast food companion, using it as a popcorn maker is an opportunity to use it more.
If you want to know my opinions about this type of purchase, and I imagine that this is so since you are here, is that they are a beneficial investment for two main reasons: Their low price and improved health compared to the commercial popcorn you would otherwise buy to put in your microwave directly.
1- They are cheap popcorn machines
When someone thinks about buying any microwave popcorn, they are looking for a low price for their pocket. And I get it; I did exactly that. I needed to get a popcorn maker to make one or two bags of popcorn for my friends’ gatherings at my house.
I don’t know if it happens to you too, but I have a gift for burning half a bag of popcorn from the packs they sell in Tesco, Asda, Lidl and places like that. With the microwave popcorn bags, I burn a lot of popcorn, and in the end it hurts. In the long run, if the film is long, we spend four bags of popcorn, of which almost 1 of them are the ones I have burned in the microwave.
That’s why I ended up buying a Lékué microwave popcorn in my case (there are more good brands like Joie to mention some others). It’s nothing else than a silicone popcorn maker that takes up very little space, and it’s cheap. So for me it was a definite purchase.
Although popcorn can still be burned, I have found that there are far fewer popcorn burned using a microwave silicone popcorn maker than using a popcorn bag from a commercial pack instead of using corn grains on my own through Amazon.
2- They take more care of your health than microwave popcorn bags because you avoid Diacetyl.
It’s for me the most vital point to keep in mind when looking for a microwave popcorn. The price difference between any popcorn machine is not significant. So choosing one or the other is more a matter of taste and how you like to prepare them so that they are more or less healthy.
As I see it, if you use the microwave to make the popcorn that comes in bags, it’s worth seriously considering getting one of cheap silicone to make the homemade popcorn in your microwave.
I’ve said they take more care of your health than wholesale bags because there are long-term health drawbacks. I’ll explain it.
There is a disease called “popcorn lung” that you can look for more information about. I’ll summarize what’s necessary; it makes it difficult for you to breathe. The reason this disease is called this way is because it is caused by Diacetyl, a chemical component used in the manufacture of popcorn microwave BAGS that you are going to use in your home microwave. The steam they release when you prepare these popcorn at home is unhealthy, and if inhaled over the long term can cause health problems.
That’s why it’s a good idea to buy a silicone popcorn for the microwave if you want to make popcorn there. By using the corn kernels directly in the silicone bowl, you altogether avoid the presence of Diacetyl and thus take care of your health.
It also allows you to customize how you want to accompany popcorn, if you want them with salt, without salt or if you wish to popcorn with sugar. Completely to your liking.
My recommendation to buy: Microwave popcorn maker Lékué
As you can imagine, at this point, my recommendation is clear.
